Remedial Massage Explained
The definition of a Remedial Massage is a targeted, therapeutic form of massage that goes beyond general relaxation to assess, treat, and manage specific soft tissue injuries, muscle pain, and chronic muscular conditions.
The core goal of a remedial massage is to remedy a specific physical problem, not just to provide a pleasant experience.

What should I expect during a remedial massage treatment?

1. Initial consultation
In the initial session, you will fill out a New Client Health Form. Here, you will list any past or current health information that may be relevant to the treatment.
We will then go through any current symptoms, what brought on the pain, what makes it better or worse, when did it start and how severe it is on a scale of 1 to 10.

2. Physical assessment
The therapist will then perform a physical assessment of posture and alignment, range of motion tests and palpation of the area.

3. Targeted treatment
The client then lays on the massage table with appropriate draping to prepare for the physical treatment.
The treatment will consist of use of a variety of techniques to treat the problem area. Deep tissue massage, trigger point therapy, myofascial release and stretching and joint mobilisation will be performed.

4. Re-assessment and after-care
The therapist may repeat one of the Range of Motion tests from the beginning of the session, to check if there has been an improvement.
Home-care advice is then provided, such as rest, applying heat or ice and/or drinking water.
The therapist will recommend an appropriate time for a follow-up session.
